VITAS is a robust simulation platform that provides dynamic multimedia scenarios for multiple training environments.  First developed for the U.S. Army Department of Combat Medic Training and, subsequently with the U.S. Air Force, VITAS provides initial entry training to combat medics.

Comprised of three major components, VITAS Scenarios, Palpapad, and SymGEN (Symptom Generator), the VITAS system, either alone or coupled with traditional training methods, provides students with learning experiences that prepare them for challenging, real world situations.  When used together, these three components function together and bring virtual patients to life to give students realistic, hands-on training.

VITAS Scenarios

VITAS Scenarios is the interactive software application that guides the learning experience through a set of multimedia-based scenarios carefully crafted to simulate real-life events occurring in real-time, complex environments.  Embedded within the scenarios are advanced instructional features that measure performance, assess skill level, and provide diagnostic feedback.  The library of scenarios is continually expanding to meet customer needs and currently covers a range of medical skills:Patient assessment, Bleeding control, Airway management, and Trauma injury treatment.  Existing scenarios include Firefight, Minefield explosion, CBRNE incident, Laser eye injury, Tank explosion, and HMMWV accident.

To teach a broader range of skills, the VITAS medical platform also includes two complementary tools:VITAS Palpapad and VITAS SymGEN (Symptom Generator).

VITAS Palpapad is a portable task trainer that simulates a wide range of patient vital signs. 

VITAS SymGEN (Symptom Generator) is an expandable multimedia library of patient conditions that also includes an e-learning content delivery tool.

VITAS Software

VITAS software includes a core program that guides the student through complex, multimedia scenarios that simulate a real life incident, in real time.  Additional features measure performance, assess skill level, and provide diagnostic feedback as the student reacts to the situation. 

The VITAS software technology can be readily adapted for numerous training environments to meet the needs of first responders, law enforcement officials, firefighters, military operations planners, and emergency management and response professionals.
