U.S. ARMY DEPLOYS STS INTERNATIONAL’S PORTABLE SURVEILLANCE AND ASSESSMENT TECHNOLOGY IN SUPPORT OF “OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM”

STS’ Portable Sensor Platform Features Actua’s Revolutionary PositionIt™ System

OWATONNA, Minn. (July 25, 2008) – The U.S. Army recently deployed several of STS International’s Portable Sensor Platforms (PSPs) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  An essential component of the PSP is Actua Systems Inc.’s patented positioning system that gives the unit an unprecedented 23-to-1 extension capability to elevate its payload.

STS International’s PSPs are designed to meet the Army’s critical need for portable surveillance and assessment technology.  Features include:

-The ability to elevate electro-optical/infra-red sensor and wireless communications equipment up to 14 feet using Actua System’s PositionIt system.

-A compact and durable design that can be transported either as a two man lift or on a military vehicle.

-Powered by standard military batteries and solar panels to remain operational indefinitely.

“Actua System’s innovative positioning system makes our Portable Sensor Platforms ideally suited to support the Defense Department, from tactical operations where portability and rapid response are critical to a full range of expeditionary and domestic crisis response missions,” said Doug Morgan, vice president of business development for STS.

Actua Systems plans to introduce a similar portable system for the emergency response industry to meet the lighting needs of disaster, emergency, recovery and law enforcement responders.
