Junior Systems Administrator

STS International is an innovative systems engineering and integration firm, is seeking a Junior Level Systems Administrator to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals to support the DoD operations in Clarksburg, WV leading biometric solution for the Department of Defense.

The ideal candidate will be a flexible and energetic individual in the Information Technology field supporting a 24x7x365 operational environment. They must be willing to learn and apply new technologies to assist the Infrastructure Engineering Team in the engineering and maintenance in a developmental test bed environment.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Willing to work shifts in a 24x7x365 operational environment.
  •   Must be able to work independently or as part of a team.
  •   Must have current vendor operating system (e.g. RHCSA or MSCE) certification and current DoD 8570.01M certification (e.g. CISSP or Security+) or must be willing to  obtain within 6 months of hire.
  •  Candidate must be within the Clarksburg, WV commuting area or be willing to relocate at his/her expense.  There are no provisions for relocation.
  • Must be a US Citizen with an active DoD Secret Clearance  

 Roles and Responsibilities:

  •  Administration and maintenance of Linux and Windows operating system and Virtual Desktop Integration (VDI)
  •  Develop, test and implement scripts to automate tasks under supervision
  •  Clearly document and track system problems
  • Detect, diagnose and resolve system issues arising within the entire system architecture including server, workstation, network, or storage hardware, as well as commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) or custom software
  •  Monitor and report system security, performance and events utilizing system monitoring tools
  •  Maintain security controls in compliance with U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) direction or guidelines
  • Apply patches and updates to infrastructure components during maintenance releases as required
  •  Follow, document and implement established operating policies and procedures
  • Produce system data and observations for engineering as required
  •  Provide 24x7x365 Tier 1 and 2 support including shift work and on-call rotations
  • Perform system backups utilizing provided backup software as prescribed by engineering and perform recoveries as needed.
  • Handling of tapes according to tape management policies

 Certification Requirements:  Candidate must have current DoD 8570.01M certification (e.g. CISSP or Security+) or be willing to obtain one within six months of appointment as well as have current vendor operating system certification or must be willing to obtain one within six months of appointment.

 Basic Qualifications:  To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

  •  Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2–3 years as a System Administrator or network administrator. Four additional years of experience can be substituted for the degree.
  •  Experience with a recent version of Linux (Red Hat Enterprise 6 preferred) or Windows Server (2008 R2 preferred)
  •  Experience with TCP/IP networks
  •  Knowledge of lightweight directory access protocol (LDAP) or Active Directory
  •   Ability to work independently or as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Oracle RDBMS 11g and SQL
  •  Knowledge of (VDI) Virtual Desktop Integration
  • Experience of VMware based Virtual Machines virtualizing Windows and Linux servers.
  •  Experience with JBoss
  •  Knowledge of storage area network (SAN) infrastructure (i.e. Brocade, NetApp, Oracle Sun)
  •  Knowledge of Cisco networks
  •  Experience with Linux sendmail with Postgres
  •  A relevant, current technical certification (e.g. RHCSA or MSCE)
  • A relevant, current security certification (e.g. CISSP or Security+)
  •  Knowledge of Veritas Storage Foundation
  •  Experience with various system and security monitoring tools (e.g. Hyperic, HBSS, Splunk, IDS, etc…)
  •  Position prefers a candidate with a current Top Secret Clearance
